GUIDING THE ENTERTAINERS OF TOMORROW

Town Hall Theatre’s professional education program provides the residents of Montgomery County with quality performing arts programming arts education. Through the medium of theatre, we strive to increase the confidence of each child that passes through our doors, as well as create a positive, student centric learning environment where each individual can be successful.

Acting One

Grades 2 - 7

This course is a prerequisite for being cast in an All Children's Theatre youth production at Town Hall Theatre. This class concentrates on the craft and process of acting. Students will work with monologues and short scenes to strengthen skills in script work. We will also be looking at characterization, voice, diction and movement exercises. Each student will understand theatre terminology and the process of going through technical rehearsal into a performance. Completion of this class is dependant on receiving a passing grade on the theatre terms quiz.

Mastering the Callback

GRADES 4 - 7

Have you ever wondered what goes on in a director’s head at callbacks? Sure, it’s easy enough to pick out a monologue and song. But when it comes to the callback, what exactly should you prepare to get the part you want? Students will work through the callback process for several "fake" shows and find out what it’s like to sit on both sides of the callback table - first as an actor, then as a director! Take these skills to your next audition, where you’ll be sure to "master the callback."

Storybook Dramas

AGES 4 - 7 YEARS

Students will make new friends, become comfortable speaking in front of a group and feel successful about putting on their own mini play! Your child's favorite stories will come to life, with a few twists of course! In this class children will begin by reading a story. Which students will then use as a jumping off point for creating their own mini play during each class. Parents are invited to see the play or "story drama" during the last five minutes of each class.

Imagination Explosion

GRADES K - 2

Funnel the energy of your little "ham" into fun theatre games that focus on teamwork. Young students will be introduced to basic acting skills such as concentration, focus, memory, pantomime, and creative characterization. These areas will be explored through the use of stories and theatre games. There will be a final presentation at the end of the session in our classroom space.

The Costume Box

GRADES K - 2

Your child be carried away by the unlimited possibilities of one of the most compelling aspects of theatre; costumes! During each class children are invited into the costume box to pick out some crazy new duds! Students will then let even their wildest imaginings come to life while creating stories and characters to go along with their new "look". Parents are invited to a grand presentation at the end of the session in our classroom space.

Pirates Treasure Trove

GRADES K - 2

Your child be carried away by the unlimited possibilities of one of the most compelling aspects of theatre; costumes! During each class children are invited into the costume box to pick out some crazy new duds! Students will then let even their wildest imaginings come to life while creating stories and characters to go along with their new "look". Parents are invited to a grand presentation at the end of the session in our classroom space.

Spiderella and Her Eight Glass Slippers

GRADES K - 2

Kids will have fantastic fun acting out their own funky fairy tales and mysterious myths. For the first few classes students will hear some crazy fairy tales and make up their own mini-plays. Student’s will then chose which tale was their favorite and participate in theatrical version of that text! There will be a presentation at the end of the class session for parents to attend.

American Girl Theatre for Youth

GRADES 2 - 4

Fans of the American girl series have the chance to act out the lives of their favorite characters! This is the perfect class for students who love the American Girl dolls and want to experience being in a play. Students will talk about their favorite books and characters and then decide how they want to structure their play. They will also wear painting clothes and get crazy painting their own backdrop! Parents are invited to a final presentation at the end of the session in our classroom space.

Junkyard Puppet Theatre!

GRADES 2 - 4

In this new and exciting class, children will create and learn to use several different types of puppets. Puppet construction starts with an array of nutty “found objects” that could have come from a junkyard! All these crazy pieces serve as a springboard to unleash students’ imaginations and create puppets and a puppet show from start to finish. They will create the script as well as design and build the puppets. Using this different perspective they will perform their incredible creation for family and friends on the last day of class with puppets that are so much more then their junkyard parts!

Make it up as you go along!

GRADES 2 - 4

Improvisational theatre is unscripted theatre. Kids literally make it up as they go along! Come play and learn! Students will have a hilarious time putting on their thinking caps while learning to be comfortable with spontaneity as they create and act out scenes. They will learn how to compliment their fellow actors and have the audience gripping their sides rolling in the aisles with laughter!

Theatre for Kids with Special Needs

GRADES 2 - 7

Improvisational theatre is unscripted theatre. Kids literally make it up as they go along! Come play and learn! Students will have a hilarious time putting on their thinking caps while learning to be comfortable with spontaneity as they create and act out scenes. They will learn how to compliment their fellow actors and have the audience gripping their sides rolling in the aisles with laughter!

High School Musical Bound!

GRADES 4 - 7

Learn to command the crowd when you are onstage just like a High School Musical star! Sing, Dance and Act in this new class that will focus on songs and characters from the popular Disney series. Each session the participants will vote on their favorite songs and work on the music and staging from those numbers. All their hard work will culminate in a performance for parents on the last day of class.

GRADES 5 - 7

Improvisational theatre is unscripted theatre. Kids literally make it up as they go along! Put your funny making skills to the test with this hilarious form of theatre! Students will learn theatre games that build on communication skills, as well as develop confidence and the self-esteem to make bold character choices and go for it!
